Medical ethics is a set of values and judgments centered around four basic, moral principles of respect for autonomy, beneficence, non- maleficence, and justice (“medical ethics,” n.d.). While medical ethics has been clearly defined in practice, the definition of nursing leadership varies substantially in literature depending upon the scope to which it is being applied. For the purpose of this paper, nursing leadership is defined as a person in a managerial position whom possesses clinical nursing expertise and utilizes interpersonal skills to enable nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide quality patient care (Curtis, de Vries, & Sheerin, 2011).
