My program aims to provide humanitarian assistance to individuals who have cognitive and physical disabilities. This group is often forgotten or not given a chance at a job after they age out of their local public school system. Specifically, in my rural community of Post, TX, where there is statistically low-income or low-working-class families who do not have access to drive their child to a place where these services are provided. The closet city that provides a service as I will be providing is over an hour away. They deserve to have access to services. We will also help with employment within our own community to foster communication and bridge the gap of individuals with disabilities the opportunity to lead a self-sufficient life.
To achieve our goal of helping these individuals, my project will form a team that will provide care, supplies, and assistance to ensure their well- being. This may involve promoting the project through flyers, emails, or social media and seeking volunteers or fundraising through events such as car washes or small gatherings at churches or parks.
To keep track of the individuals we are helping, we will have attendance records as well as email and phone communication with their
parent/guardian. Additionally, the Bright Horizons team will be organized into specific categories where each member will be assigned a particular task, such as keeping a list of phone numbers, making weekly calls, or organizing monthly meetings for the family as well the student.
Finally, the individuals who come to Bright Horizons will be welcomed into an environment where fun and laughter will occur. It will give them something to look forward to each and every day. We will work closely with the local school who has a transition program, to develop a relationship to ensure we adapt our curriculum around what they are doing in the classroom……….. Continue
