The 12-year-old female patient was brought in by her mother second to confusion x1 day. She is verbally responsive, oriented to name only and unable to follow commands. Additional symptoms reported include fatigue, polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria, blurred vision, and weight loss. Significant family history includes diabetes. Physical examination revealed decreased skin turgor, delayed capillary refill, fruity smelling breath, and poor posture with an unsteady gait.
She is tachycardic of 124 bpm and tachypneic with labored breathing at 32bpm.
