Journal Entry This paper will include a discussion on the goals and objectives of the practicum experience plan, a reflection on three challenging patients, learned practicum experiences, resources available, evidenced-based practice used, new skills learned, what would've been done differently, and how patient flow and volume were managed. For this term, I will focus on providing patients in mental health settings across the lifespan with safe, competent, and thorough mental health assessments. My objectives are as follows: I will acquaint myself with the screening instrument (assessment) appropriate for the clinical situation, I will understand and apply the principal components of a mental health assessment (e.g., general appearance and behavior, mood, and affect, thought content, cognitive functioning, and judgment and insight) For this term, I will focus on formulating differential diagnoses for patients across the lifespan. I will read and use the DSM-5 book to understand the signs and symptoms of different mental illnesses I reached the first aim. I have some difficulty remembering each part of the MSE as I miss at least one part. The second objective was completed; I could give a report on my patients and give suggestions on their diagnoses.
