Professionalism and Social Media
In today’s world social media is a great tool whether we are looking for entertainment or information. With ever changing practices as well as treatments in nursing the benefits of social media are endless to keep up to date. Social media outlets have medical policies and approaches for best practices at your very fingertips (ANA, n.d). If you need support or experience of fellow nurses look no further than media sites like Facebook for nursing groups that reach the world. The platform of sharing in the profession has grown immensely since starting as a nurse. One that has been particularly helpful is Show me your Stethoscope. It is truly moving the loud voice nurses have become and continue to be. The downside of all this greatness is social media can also bring negative consequences when not used appropriately or when misinterpreted. For this paper this writer will analyze all aspects of personal social media usage and whether they could affect profession.
Personal Posts/Conversations
Past posts that included pictures with low cut shirts bothered this writer when reviewing Facebook. Posts with a selfie stating between shifts, “I had no sleep” also are something that would quickly be deleted when posting before going to work since my profession is daily care for others loved ones.
