Martin Luther King Jr. was working to promote and protect minority Americans. Slavery was one of the biggest problems that had ended in the 18th-century. After the Civil War throughout the years of (1861-1865), three amendments were added to the United States Constitution. The amendments added were the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth, which helped the freedom of former slaves and it also increased civil liberties. (Laureate Education 2018). These amendments were also known as Reconstruction Amendments, (Laureate Education 2018) stated these Amendments were written to “address the civil and human rights of African Americans and other groups. During the 19th-century racism still existed which was heartbreaking. Martin Luther King Jr. worked very hard at making a statement when promoting Civil Rights. The events of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the 1963 Marchon on Washington were major for Martin Luther King Jr. This is when Martin Luther King Jr gave his historical public speech named “I Have A Dream” calling for civil rights, economic rights and to end racism in the United States. I believe that the one group that is still an issue in American society that still needs civil rights promotion is African Americans.
